OPIOID ADDICTION TREATMENT

Opioid Addiction

The word “opiate” refers to natural derivatives of the opium poppy, such as morphine and codeine, while “opioid” refers to both opiates and a wide range of synthetic compounds. Opioids are useful for pain management and cough suppression for patients with severe lung conditions; however, they are also among the most abused patient drugs. Opioids are easy to obtain, readily prescribed by doctors, and highly addictive. Opioid addiction has, in fact, become an epidemic problem that has killed tens of thousands of Americans and even garnered the attention of federal legislators.

Enterhealth provides opioid addiction treatment for opiates like heroin and prescription pain medications.

The Enterhealth Approach To Opioid Addiction Treatment Programs

At Enterhealth Inpatient Drug Rehab, our team of board-certified addiction psychiatrists, physicians, neuropsychologist, and other experts take a holistic approach to treating opioid addiction. They combine their training and expertise with the latest evidence-based mental health therapies and pharmacological techniques to help those suffering from opioid addiction regain control, sobriety, and stability in their lives.

Proven to be more effective than traditional addiction treatment programs, the Enterhealth team developed a science-based set of treatments and protocols based on the latest medical research from the National Institute of Health identifying alcohol and drug dependency as a treatable chronic brain disease.

Because they begin with the knowledge that addiction is a brain disease, they employ the latest medical advances to combat the damage done to the brain's neurotransmitters. This helps to restore serotonin levels and combat cravings, giving the brain a chance to heal so that recovery can move forward.

Opioid Withdrawal Stabilization

What can I expect?

The first step to recovery starts with detoxifying your body. Enterhealth Ranch provides supervised residential (or inpatient) drug detox services for opioid addiction with 24-hour nursing and medical staff available at any hour of the day. The opioid withdrawal stabilization process is a crucial first step to recovery. It should only be done under the supervision of a physician with formal training in alcohol/drug addiction treatment.

Common & Severe Opioid Withdrawal Symptoms

Depending on which opioids were abused and for how long, the signs and symptoms of opioid withdrawal symptoms may vary. These symptoms can include:

  • Anxiety, restlessness, and irritability
  • Sweating, nausea, and tremors
  • Anorexia
  • Nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Intense cravings to relapse
  • In extreme cases, death

These problems vary in severity and duration depending on the specific drug dose and duration of use. How long it takes for the opioid withdrawal symptoms to appear also varies.

Please Note: Withdrawal stabilization is not treatment. Opioid Withdrawal stabilization is not a treatment but serves to remove the substance from the body safely before the treatment phase.

Treating Opioid Addiction in Patients with Chronic & Acute Pain

Recovery from opioid addiction is a tough road. It’s even more difficult for those experiencing chronic or acute pain. This includes those recovering from an accident or injury, as well as those with a condition such as fibromyalgia, nerve damage, cancer, or other illnesses.

Enterhealth understands that these patients with these kinds of issues face added difficulties in recovery as a result of their pain. However, there are methods that can help reduce real and perceived pain without resorting to opioids. Some of these bring actual, physical relief to pain, while others address the affects pain has on mental health.

Some alternative options for pain management include:

  • Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), including ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve), and Acetaminophen (Tylenol)
  • Glucocorticoid steroids
  • Selective anticonvulsants such as gabapentin for peripheral or perceived nerve pain
  • Topical agents like capsaicin for muscle pain
  • Meditation and group therapy to help manage pain and emotional distress
  • Multidisciplinary approaches that can help patients mentally handle pain, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
  • TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) using medical devices

Some of these alternative options are more effective than others for different types of pain, which is why we specifically tailor each aspect of treatment on an individual basis. Our goal is to make opioid addiction recovery as comfortable as possible while still maintaining efficacy and helping people remove these addictive substances from their bodies.
